Finding Balance

Finding Balance

Trying to find balance when you are in the middle of a bad flare feels impossible.  Right now I am doing all I can to listen to my body and rest as much as I can, rest but not sleep because that is something I am not able to do unfortunately. Insomnia is horrible.

I’m not sure if this is my new normal or just a really long flare.
Swollen joints, stiff muscles, rashes, extreme fatigue, all over pain, hair falling out at a rapid rate and brain fog are all here but they brought new uninvited friends who are making simple tasks difficult to accomplish.

Cooking is an important part of my self care as it is a calming activity but that is tiresome with knife holding for chopping or lifting the pots is a hit or miss. I’ve dropped one to many pans lately so I need to find lighter ones.

Incorporating more herbs in various forms ( bitters, sea moss, teas, smoothies and regular old food recipes) has been one way I am learning more about what works for me even in the slightest way. Keeping a journal of what seems to help and what reactions I’m getting will hopefully give me a strong foundation of options to turn to.

Sipping different teas has been a blessing since I can use my electric kettle or just enjoy some of the Sorrel we always have on hand.

Sorrel is relaxing, delicious and reduces my swelling. Drinking it warm at night allows me to get comfortable enjoy to get a few hours of sleep. Add in a sprinkle of lavender or rose hips and you have the perfect nighttime cup a to sip and let the days woes fade away.

Self care can be that easy. A cup of Sorrel.
