Right now we are all dealing with so many different things that can cause us to feel levels of stress or anxiety like never before.
Our health is extremely important but a part of our health we often overlook is our mental health. Taking time to pause all the noise going on around us and check in with ourselves is necessary. We need that internal check in to balance everything.
Take time and enjoy moments that are all about you.
Often we say it’s a luxury to have a day to ourselves but it shouldn’t be that way, instead self care needs to be a natural occurrence in our weekly routines.
Is there something you do for yourself as a way of taking time to pause and relax?
For me it’s drinking tea with a good book.
My go to are obviously Sorrel (hot or cold) and black tea (specifically Salada) as that’s what I would drink everyday with my grandma. Growing up we had tea time twice a day and it was always a routine filled time I enjoyed.
As I got older my role in tea time changed from getting the tea cups or filling up the milk and sugar containers to turning on/off the stove, picking out the snack/ food to accompany the tea to finally making the dessert and pouring the hot water. I never truly made the tea because my gram had her little extras she’d like to add in depending on the occasion or season.
Afternoons sipping tea as she read a book to me me, watched one of her favorite shows or I told her about my day are all now part of why drinking tea is so comforting to me.
Anytime I had an issue and went to her she would say “ hold on let me put the kettle on” and we would talk through multiple cups of tea filled with laughter or tears and I would always feel better afterwards. Sitting at her kitchen table with the saucer in front of me waiting for the tea to be filled into the cup and hearing the song her kettle would sing when ready are all bits of comfort that make me smile.
I have one of her special tea cups and saucers which I use on the days I really wish I was back at her kitchen table sharing a pot of tea and listening to her talk.
Hot toddy’s were also her cure for anything and next up is our Sorrel hot toddy.
